How to Market Your Business as an Introvert – Part 1
Cookies, Crowds, and Quiet Time
Anyone that knows me knows that I’m an introvert. I’m not great at small talk. After being around people for a few hours, I need to retreat and recharge. I often feel like the world is just too “people-y.”
There are only four people in my life that I can spend extended time with and not lose my mind.
A friend once explained the difference between introverts and extroverts using cookies. It made so much sense, I’ve never forgotten it.
Marketing For Introverts
The Cookie Analogy
Introverts start the day with a certain number of cookies. We give those cookies out to people as we interact. When we run out, we’re done. We need to rest.
Extroverts are the opposite. They go through their day collecting cookies from others. The more they interact, the more energized they feel. The more cookies they collect, the better they feel.
I use this analogy a lot—especially because I’m an introvert, and my husband Mark is an extrovert.
So, How Does marketing for introverts work in Business?
That’s a great question. And honestly, I don’t fully know the answer, yet.
Right now, I’m in the early stages of building social media content for my business. I’ve recently hired a company called Purple Owl Media to help with marketing, social media, and website development.

The Scary World of Video
At our first meeting, the partners, Lisa and Matt, suggested something that made me want to run away (well… hobble, since I’m currently in a boot with a fractured ankle).
They talked about creating personalized video content with my face and voice.
Cue the panic!
I knew they were right. People connect with personal stories, and I understand this is a powerful way to grow my business. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
Do I really have to put myself out there?
Unfortunately… the answer is a loud and uncomfortable YES.
A Bite-Sized Plan
Last night, Lisa emailed me a simple starting point:
Film five 60-second videos to begin.
She told me to start filming random moments from my day. Think of them as the ingredients for a cake, not the final cake itself.
That advice really clicked. So, that’s my plan.
With help from Lisa, Matt, and Mark, I’m going to try.
Moving Forward, One Awkward Step at a Time
Stay tuned for some awkward but genuine content as I push myself out of my comfort zone. If you’re an introvert, you already know what kind of mental gymnastics this takes.
Also stay tuned for more blog posts as I continue learning how to market my introverted self—and grow my business in the process.
It might not be perfect, but I’m definitely giving it a shot!
